The HISA Equine Recovery Foundation (HERF) is a 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization dedicated to supporting Thoroughbred racehorses injured during racing and training, addressing a critical gap in equine welfare. HERF provides essential financial and logistical assistance to reduce fatalities resulting from recoverable racing-related injuries. Created in furtherance of HISA's mission to protect the health and safety of horses and riders, HERF was launched in March 2026. HERF is operated separately from HISA, with a dedicated fundraising process and governed by a fully independent Board of Directors.
